Reflecting on a huge 2019!
It’s always a sentimental time when you realise the year is almost over (let alone a whole decade) and reflect back on the past 365 days.
Join us as we highlight some of our favourite moments this year:
UnLimbited Arm
The reason why we do what we do; we designed and created 12 new arms for recipients between 6 and 72 years old. We had:
A black and purple arm for Taitum
A rainbow arm for Lottie
A Manchester United arm for Ted
A funky yellow and red design for Chloe
A bright ‘always believe’ arm for Alisha
A Spider-Man arm for Evan
A rainbow design for Lillie
A Wolves football club themed arm
A sleek toned design for Bridget
A Nebula themed arm from Guardians of the Galaxy for Isabella
A stripy red and yellow design for our Science Museum display
And a Harry Potter Gryffindor design for the Science Museum archive
We made several improvements to the original design that we first used for Isabella back in 2015.
If you would like to request an arm and live in the UK, please email hello@teamunlimbited.org.
Trustee Meetings
We began our regular trustee meetings earlier this year!
As a charity that operates during our spare time, it’s important we make time to ensure everything is running efficiently and meeting the latest build standards. And, it’s always nice to catch up together as a team!
Abu Dhabi Ideas Festival
It was such an honour to be invited back to the Abu Dhabi Ideas Festival for a second year running, where we discussed our 3D designs and shared the stage with high profile guests such as Gordon Brown and Lucy Hawking.
We also hosted workshops where we demonstrated how to assemble our UnLimbited arm.
UnLimbitedBaking Competition
How fun was the time we teamed up with famous baker Briony May to host a competition! The lucky winner saw their design baked by Briony and received a Tefal Cake Factory along with some delicious cookies - view the winning design here. Make sure you follow us on social media as we run more competitions in the future!
Fundraising
This year, we were so fortunate to receive donations through a whole host of exciting fundraising events. We know how much time and effort goes into planning these so thank you so much.
The Rusty Sprocket Motorcycles club raised a huge £2,000 and an additional £600 from previous hosting outdoor camping events. The amazing children at Westbourne House School donated to us after their Flight Centre Schools Triathlon. The pupils from More House School in Farnham also donated after undertaking a sponsored walk for a whole day, which raised an impressive £2,000! They even invited us to their school to give a presentation on everything Team UnLimbited. We also had Natalie, a design teacher at another school, who donated a whopping £2,266.29 by racing in marathons – read more on Natalie’s story in our blog.
Science Museum
Having our own permanent display at the London Science Museum was a huge achievement.
Our printed arms are now seen by thousands daily in the Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries alongside other extraordinary medical artefacts. It’s the fourth museum to include our work and helps to spread how 3D printing is helping the limb difference community.
Get all the details in our blog.
New Website
Last but certainly not least, we refreshed our website! A fresh new look for a fresh new year!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our amazing year, we appreciate everyone’s support and can’t wait to share what 2020 has in store for us. See you in the New Year!
Now that’s a wrap!
